Physical Therapy is first and foremost in effective muscle building (German translation: Effektiver Muskelaufbau) in children with hypotonia. Specific exercises given by a PT will almost always show improvement in the child’s gross motor skills. Depending on the age of child these exercises are not complicated for said caregiver to repeat. For example an infant unable to put feet his or her feet in her mouth which is a necessary milestone and step towards unsupported sitting. A simple exercise at diaper changing time where the legs of the infant and hips are pointed towards the mouth repetitively will build muscle and core tone enabling a child to eventually do it on his or her own.
